Lt Gen Sahrawat takes over Vajra Corps of WC

JAMMU, Sept 2: Lt Gen BS Sahrawat has taken over as the General Officer Commanding of the prestigious Jalandhar based Vajra Corps under Western Command today.
He has relieved  Lt Gen  JS Cheema, who moves to Army Headquarters as Director General Infantry.  Lt Gen BS Sahrawat  is a third generation Army officer.  He was commissioned in Dec 1980 in 13th Bn (REZANG LA), the KUMAON Regiment and commanded the same battalion in Ladakh and during Operation Prakram in deserts. The General Officer has commanded a Mountain Brigade and an Infantry Division.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy, the General Officer has a distinguished career during which he has tenanted numerous sensitive and distinctively coveted appointments in various parts of the country and abroad which included an assignment as  Military observer in Iraq and Kuwait.
The General Officer was awarded the “Sena Medal” for his sterling efforts in saving civilian lives and property during floods of Kosi river in Bihar in the year 2008.
Lt Gen Sahrawat  was the Director General in the Land, Works and Environment Directorate in the Army Headquarters  prior to assuming command of Vajra Corps.
