JALANDHAR, Jan 12: In a momentous celebration marking academic excellence, global outlook, Lovely Professional University (LPU) today organised its 12th Convocation Ceremony.
The ceremony was chaired by the C P Radhakrishnan, Vice-President of India, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The convocation was presided over by the Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh.
Adding exceptional global stature to the occasion, Mary Elizabeth Truss, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was conferred with the Degree of Doctorate Honoris Causa, recognising her leadership, public service and contributions to global political discourse.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-President of India congratulated the graduating students on reaching an important milestone, describing convocation as a moment of fulfilment that simultaneously renews responsibility, not only for graduates, but also for parents, faculty members and institutions that shape young minds.
The Vice-President appreciated LPU’s initiatives promoting self-reliance through the adoption of Made-in-India products on campus, along with the university’s support for armed forces families through the Jai Jawan Scholarship.
As the presiding officer, the Governor of Punjab congratulated the graduating students and reminded them that education extends far beyond academic attainment to the formation of character, values and civic responsibility.
He urged graduates to uphold integrity, discipline and ethical grounding in every sphere of life.
Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, MP Rajya Sabha and founder Chancellor of LPU shared delight in hosting the Vice-President of India along with eminent national and international dignitaries at the convocation.
He emphasised that education at LPU is anchored not merely in credentials, but in purpose, with a strong focus on nurturing leaders, innovators and problem-solvers capable of addressing national and global challenges.
In recognition of outstanding merit and scholarly achievement, the university awarded Academic Medals to 320 students, including 37 Gold Medallists, while 861 Ph.D. scholars were honoured for their research contributions, perseverance and academic rigour.
Among others who attended the ceremony included Ramesh Mittal, Naresh Mittal, Dr Col Rashmi Mittal, Mohinder Gupta and H R Singla.
