JAMMU, May 12: On the occasion of Budh Purnima, Buddha Jayanti was celebrated today with devotion. According to Buddhist tradition, Lord Budha was born on full moon of Vesak month in 624 BC.

The All J&K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Jammu marked the sacred occasion of Lord Buddha Jayanti with great reverence and enthusiasm at the Gurudwara Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, located at Krishna Nagar, Jammu.
The celebration saw the participation of a large number of devotees and community leaders, who came together to honor the legacy of Lord Buddha.
The program included spiritual discourses, recitations from Buddhist scriptures, and reflections on the life and values of Lord Buddha. The gathering not only celebrated the historical importance of Buddha Jayanti but also reinforced a collective commitment to living by the principles of compassion, non-violence, truth, and spiritual awakening.
On the occasion, three monumental events in Lord Buddha’s life – his birth at Lumbini, his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, and his Mahaparinirvana at Kushinagar were highlighted by R C Bhasin, the Convenor of the Adhoc Committee of the Sabha.
Shamlal Basson shared insights into the core philosophy of Lord Buddha. Prof C L Shivgotra spoke about Buddha’s teachings on emotional control and inner peace.
Among the attendees were T C Bavouria, Kuldip Fouji, Gaurav Ravidasia, S Surjeet Singh Heer, Trasem Loach, Joginder Paul, Babli Devi, Sunita Devi, Gulshan Kumar, Bodh Raj and Sham Lal.
The event concluded with a community prayer for global peace and harmony, echoing the teachings of the Enlightened One.
In Bishnah, large number of devotees hailing from different corners visited the Buddh Vihar Bishnah today and paid tribute to Lord Buddha on his 2569th Jayanti.
R L Kaith threw light on the life and teaching of Lord Budha. JKBWA President Prithi Singh Chanjotra said that Lord Buddha had tried to explain people that all the sufferings of the world are simply because of our attachment to these things. Ajaib Singh Motan said that teachings of Lord Buddha are relevant and extremely useful in the present day life.
Other speakers included former BMC Chairman Ramesh Kumar, Rajinder Billa, Prem Pal Nandan, Tarsem Sandhu, Hans Raj Loria, Subedar Baldev Chand Sandhu (Retd), Sub Inspector (Retd) Darshan Kumar Bassa, Havildar Des Raj (Retd), Tilak Raj Bassa, Thoru Ram Mandi, Sat Paul, Ram Pal, Raj Kumar, Sunny Kaith, Kuldeep Kumar and Tilak Raj.
