JAMMU, Jan 12: Lohri festival was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety.
Sham Lal Sharma, former minister and J&K BJP Vice President has emphasized upon the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and it is the youth who must come forward and work relentlessly as ambassadors to promote the rich Dogri language. He was speaking at the Rashtriya Yuva Diwas and Lohri Milan programme organized at Mubarak Mandi. The programme was organized by Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor along with Mahant Rohit Shastri, President Baba Kailakh Devsthan Trust and Bunty cartoonist. Speaking on the occasion, Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor appealed to the youth to disseminate the richness of Dogra culture and language across the nation and abroad to make the people aware about the niceties of this old yet rich heritage through their performance in various fields including theatre, folk lore and folk music, Dogri songs, literature, etc. Addressing the gathering, Ashok Koul, General Secretary Org, BJP J&K said that the youth of J&K should ensure substantial participation in the cultural activities to highlight the Dogra tradition and rituals of which Dogri language is an inseparable part. Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu Prof JP Sharma, Director Agriculture Jammu KK Sharma and Prof Madan Mohan Jha Director Sanskrit University also spoke on the occasion. During the programme, Sham Lal Sharma along with other dignitaries felicitated who have worked relentlessly for the promotion of Dogri language.
The J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu celebrated Lohri Festival in the Court Complex, Jammu.
The festival was attended by office bearers of J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, namely MK Bhardwaj, Senior Advocate and President, Mohinder Pal Singh Palli Vice President, Surjeet Singh Andotra, General Secretary, Aditya Sharma, Joint Secretary and Amandeep Singh, Treasurer of JKHCAJ, Rohit Sharma, YLA President, Gagandeep Singh (Lucky), YLA Vice President, Yasir Farooq Khan, YLA General Secretary, Naresh Kumar YLA Treasurer besides many other senior members, young lawyers and lady lawyers. On the occasion, Mohinder Pal Singh Palli, Vice President performed a traditional Lohri song. MK Bhardwaj extended his wishes on the occasion of Lohri and prayed that this special festival bring joy and good health in everyone’s lives.
Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu celebrated virtual Lohri festival with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm under the supervision of MD DHSS Advocate Gambhir Dev Singh Charak. The virtual function started with a Lohri song presented by junior wing students. Students showcasing their marvellous skills recited a poem and delivered a speech based on Lohri celebration. Managing Director Gambhir Dev Singh Charak appreciated Incharge Activity Sheetal and her team members, Incharge Tagore House and other teachers who decorated the institution and arranged virtual celebrations. Davinder Kaur, Principal and Meenakshi, Vice Principal threw light on the rituals related to Lohri festival.
Lohri festival was celebrated in Unique Public Senior Secondary School Gadi Garh Jammu. The Chairman Jasbir Singh, the Trustee Nirlep Kour along with Principal Ravinder Kour, Co-ordinator and staff members lit the traditional bonfire and performed the rituals. The staff also organised cultural program.
Lohri was celebrated at Sunrise Public School, Channi Himmat, Jammu with lot of zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was conducted in which the students from junior and senior wing participated. Students presented various items on the occasion. Founder Director of School Manpreet encouraged teachers to play a vital role to keep the tradition and culture alive in our festivities.
The joyous festival of Lohri was celebrated at Mount Litera Zee School, Anand Nagar, Bohri, Jammu in the presence of Chairman Dr Parneesh Mahajan, Liaison Officer Harvinder Singh Sihotra, Principal Dr Nitasha Bali, Vice Principal Dr Radhika Mahajan and Administrative Staff. The theme was presented meticulously through spectacular performances by the students in the form of cultural program. The students displayed an array of performances like singing, dancing, speech and role play.
