JAMMU, Mar 6: Due to lackadaisical attitude of the district administration and the agency executing Jammu-Akhnoor road widening work, inhabitants along the road from Canal crossing upto Shakti Nagar are immensely suffering.
As the drainages have got completely damaged due to the ongoing work, rain water enters into the houses thus creating hell like condition for the inhabitants. Dumps of material and soil on the roadside adding to woes of the people, who face dirt and mud everywhere.
“Rain water takes away soil and there are pools of mud here and there making it difficult for us even to come out of our house safely,” said Jeevan Kumar while pointing towards big potholes filled with muddy water in front of his house.
Further, the locals alleged, the construction company is executing work in patches thus prolonging miseries of the people, who have been facing such situation since start of the road widening work early last year.
According to Rajesh Gupta, another local, the concerned executing agency and the district administration were repeatedly apprised about the difficulties being faced by the inhabitants because of ill-managed work but no action was taken.
“Though some times, temporary steps were taken such as filling a few potholes after we repeatedly registered our complaints to the NHIDCL, there was no permanent solution and people are continuously suffering,” said Pawan.
The locals also accused the District administration for being insensitive towards their plights as no direction was ever passed to NHIDCL or the construction company, which has been allotted the work. “If the situation remains the same, we will have no option other than to take to streets in protest against the executing agency and the district administration,” they warned and urged the Lt Governor to personally intervene into the matter.
