REASI, Sept 7: Staging a protest against the local administration, residents of Arnas tehsil blocked the main road for several hours.
Villagers from Kouri, Judda, Khani Kot, and Sawla Kot highlighted that they have been reeling under darkness for the past fifteen days due to a prolonged power outage. The power disruption has paralyzed normal life and triggered widespread resentment.
They also expressed anger over no stoppage of local trains at Kouri Railway Station thus forcing thousands of daily commuters to face undue hardships.
The protestors submitted a written memorandum to the Tehsildar listing their urgent demands in the wake of recent heavy rains and cloudbursts that damaged houses, crops and infrastructure.
They demanded provision of tents, blankets, and other relief material to those whose houses were damaged, Free ration for one year as maize crops have been completely destroyed, waiver of KCC loans for affected farmers, immediate removal of landslides on Kanthan-Sawalkote railway road and other roads, proper functioning of all water supply schemes, financial assistance for the protection of damaged houses and agricultural land, were other demands of these people.
The residents warned that if the administration fails to address these grievances within three days, the agitation will be intensified and the authorities would be responsible for the same.
