UDHAMPUR, Jan 5: Locals of Chenani today protested against Chenani Municipal Committee (CMC) demanding immediate shifting of the garbage dumping station from Tawi River in the area.
They raised slogans against the Chenani Municipal Committee (CMC) and said that dumping of garbage on the banks of river Tawi was polluting the water, which is being supplied in Chenani and Udhampur town.
“Despite repeated complaints in this regard to the Chenani SDM and Chenani Municipal Committee no action was taken and more ironic is the fact that even Pollution Control department has also ignored the issue,” said the protesters.
They claimed that cases of jaundice, diarrhoea and other skin diseases are being detected due to polluted water. We want a permanent and scientific solution of the problem so that a clean environment is maintained in Chenani town, they added.
Protesters also threatened the Municipal Committee that if no early action is taken to resolve the problem, they will be forced to block the national highway.
