UDHAMPUR, Nov 30: Locals of Latti, Dudu and Basangarh have demanded an end to power cut between 6 PM and 6AM in the hilly areas in view of short days coupled with extremely low temperature during the months of October to April.
Locals led by Hans Raj Thakur, President Kailash Kund Yatra Management Committee Dudu, today submit a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai and urged to ensure no power Cut in Latti, Dudu, Basantgarh and other hilly areas of the district.
“Occupation of most of the people in these areas is agriculture and cattle rearing and their daily schedule makes it mandatory for them to sleep and wake early in the evening and morning, respectively,” reads the memorandum, adding that the ongoing evening hour power cuts were causing a lot of hardships to the entire population in general and students, infants , aged people and women in particular.
Since 99 percent households in these areas don’t have a power backup system, they are forced to sit idle during the power cut in evening,” villagers explained and appealed the DC that keeping in view of these circumstances, there should be no power cut between 6 PM and 6AM.
