Load carrier hits passenger vehicle, 5 injured

RAMBAN, Feb 8: Five persons were injured in a head-on collision between a load carrier of Dumper make and a passenger vehicle of Tempo Traveler make inside Chenani Nashri Tunnel here today.
Police sources informed that the Dumper bearing registration number JK19-8324 was on its way to Srinagar and it hit a Tempo Traveler bearing registration number JK01V-4012 coming from the opposite direction inside Chenani Nashri Tunnel leaving five passengers travelling in the Tempo injured.
All the injured were rushed to CHC Chenani for treatment.
Three passengers received critical injuries while the other two sustained minor injuries.
The three critically injured passengers were identified as Harmeet Singh, 54, son of Bajinder Singh, resident of Jammu; Mudasir Sheikh, 25, son of Mohammad Akber, resident of Palhallan, Baramulla and Shaid Ashraf, 23, son of Mohammad Ashraf, resident of Palhallan, Baramulla and they were referred from CHC Chenani to GMC Udhampur for specialized treatment.
Police said that two passengers with minor injuries were identified as Gulam Mohammad, son of Mohmmad Sultan, resident of Srinagar and Bilal Rashid, 25, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Pattan, Kashmir and they were responding to treatment at CHC Chenani.
SHO Police Station Batote, Inspector Vikram Parihar said that a case was registered at Police Station Batote in this regard and investigation started.
Due to the accident, vehicular movement was disrupted inside the tunnel till both the vehicles were removed with the help of cranes.
