LMD recovers Rs 24,500 fine from 16 erring traders

JAMMU, June 17: The market checking team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) under the supervision of Dy Controller Consumer Protection V S Sambyal conducted checking of different business establishments dealing with stationery, bakery, fruit, vegetable and Kiryana items in the areas of Babliana, Airport Road, Gandhi Nagar and Rehal, today.
During the course of checking the Inspector LM Jammu (L) M Khateeb detected 16 traders violating the provisions of J&K Weights and Measures (Enf.) Act, 1997.
The business establishments had been detected selling notebooks without marking number of pages contained in notebooks, use of unverified electronic weighing scales and overcharging of kiryana items in comparison to the rates fixed by the Government.
The booked traders felt guilty and requested for composition of offences booked, the Deputy Controller Consumer Protection compounded the  cases for Rs 24,500.
Dy Controller Consumer Protection has appealed the medical fraternity involved in private practice to display fee structures of different services in their premises and provide cash memos to the visiting persons for the services offered by them.
