LMD challans 43 erring traders, recovers Rs 72600 fine

JAMMU, May 30: The market checking squads of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) conducted inspection of a number of establishments dealing with fruits, vegetables, cheese, milk, bakery, Kiryana, items related to COVID-19, besides wheat procurements centres during current lockdown and detected 43 traders for malpractices.
The erring traders were involved in selling pulses/vegetables more than rates fixed by the competent authorities, weighing less while delivering, etc. The Department challaned erring traders under relevant provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009 and realized a penalty amount of Rs 72,600 from erring traders in different parts of Jammu province.
During the pandemic period, the Department has standardized 595 weighing and measuring instruments used in commercial transactions and collected amount of Rs 1,81,293 in the form of fee.
