The PSC members headed by Brij Lal reached Katra, the holy town and base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine, this morning and met Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) CEO Anshul Garg and other officers to review facilities, public grievances and redressal system of the Board.

“Linking Kashmir by train is big achievement. This will further develop infrastructure. Local people will benefit a lot. Their fruits and dry fruits will easily reach the country and then abroad. This will encourage the farmers,’’ Lal told reporters in Katra as he and other members of the Parliamentary Committee also visited Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine for darshan.
He said he wanted to reach Katra by train but there were no tickets available for 15 days. “ I also wanted to see highest railway bridge built over river Chenab,’’ he added and said though he didn’t get a chance this time he will come again.
“I came here to have the darshan of Mata Ji. The main purpose of my visit was to talk to the CEO SMVDSB and other officials here regarding the facilities and grievance setup. After this visit, we will submit a report to Parliament, but its details cannot be made public,” Lal said.
He lauded the efforts of Shrine Board saying, “I have a very good experience here. Since my last visit in 2023, I have observed significant changes.” He said that during their visit to the shrine, they elaborately discussed various aspects related to it.
He added that they would have meetings with the officials of Punjab & Sind Bank, Power Grid and other public sector undertakings in Jammu.
“After our Jammu visit, we will go to Srinagar and there, we will meet with the Chief Secretary and Government officials. After that, we will submit a report to Parliament,” Lal said.
He said that the major issue here was related to public grievances — understanding what problems people face and how the Board and officials resolve them.
“This was the main objective of our visit,” Lal said.
The Committee will review functioning of Right to Information Act, 2005 and judicial infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir during an interaction with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers of the administration.
The visit of PSC on Personnel, Public Grievance and Law & Justice will be followed by the six-day tour of the Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel to Jammu and Kashmir from July 5-10.
The Committee is headed by BJP MP and former Minister Anurag Singh Thakur.
More Committees are expected to visit J&K but since Monsoon session of Parliament is only a month away, only few Panels may visit while rest are expected to plan their tours after August 15,” the sources said.
