Lineman caught taking bribe in Srinagar

JAMMU, July 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a lineman of the Power Development Department (PDD), Sub Division Pattan, for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in Panzinara, Shalteng area of Srinagar.
Officials said the accused, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, a Lineman-II designated as Meter Reader at Panzinara, had demanded the bribe from a complainant for processing a new electricity connection to a residential house.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, they said, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted a discreet verification that confirmed the demand.
Subsequently, a case under FIR number 13/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, they said.
“Accordingly, a trap was laid, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe,” officials said.
He was arrested on-the-spot and the tainted money was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses, they said.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
