POONCH, Apr 5: A 3.15 MVA electric transformer of the Power Development Department (PDD) was damaged at receiving station Saiklu due to sky lightning amidst thunder-storm today. The power supply was snapped in the entire area after this in Tehsil Mandi.
Official sources said that due to sky lightning, 3.15 MVA transformer caught massive fire. It caused extensive damage to the transformer and power allied power infrastructure. With the timely action of fire tenders another installed 6.3 MVA transformer was saved.
After the damage to one transformer, the power supply was disrupted in many areas including Mandi, Azamabad, Attoli, Chela Dangri, Jallian, Rajpura, Saiklu, Sathra, Fatehpur and Baila villages.
XEN PDD, Mohd Aftab and AEE concerned said that they have arranged another transformer but it will take two or three days to get installed, while the load of damaged transformer is being transferred to another one to restore the power till then. They assured that the power will get restored till late evening.
