SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Scores of youth from Sikh community under the banner of ‘Institute of Gurmat Studies’ here today protested against the Government and demanded the lifting of ban on Punjabi movie ‘Sadda Haq’.
“The film was scheduled to be released on April 5, but it was banned by Punjab Government under pressure from high-ups in Punjab police and the bureaucracy on the late evening of April 4 followed by the protests across the Punjab,” said the protesting youth.
The protesters said that the film was based on real events of Punjab during 1980s-90s as it portrays the widespread police excesses including torture used by police to crush insurgency in Punjab. “The movie depicts the reality of Punjab during 80s and 90s, that was why it was banned,” they said.
