JAMMU, Aug 4: State Licensing Authority has issued necessary orders for indefinite suspension of the licenses of three firms involved in supplying sub-standard drugs while as licenses of two firms have been withdrawn.
A spokesman of the Drug and Food Control Organization said that Central Drugs Standards Control Organization had lifted 156 statutory drug samples from various parts of the State. Out of which 97 were lifted from Government institutions and 59 from open market. The reports of 147 samples have been received till date out of which 27 have been declared as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ).
Out of the 27 drug samples declared NSQ, six samples belong to market and rest 21 have been lifted from Government institutions. The State Licensing Authority, appointed under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules, has issued necessary orders for indefinite suspension of the licenses of three firms—M/s Ethicare Laboratories, M/s Vivek Pharmachem (India) Ltd and M/s Biosearch Organics.
The licenses of two firms—M/s A K Biotech and M/s Minil Laboratories have been withdrawn in part to manufacture drugs—Marycal-500 (calcium carbonate tablets) and P-Min 10% (providone iodine solution IP) respectively, the spokesman said, adding the action against the manufacturers with regard to drugs declared NSQ is being taken strictly in accordance with directions of the Central Government issued vide Letter of Director (Drugs), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare dated November 26, 2010.
“The Inspectorate staff of the DFCO, J&K has seized the drugs worth Rs 6 lakh of the available stocks of the NSQ drugs from the institutions/market”, the spokesman said.
