Leh, Mar 27: In a significant decision aimed at honouring the exemplary public service and preserving the legacy of a distinguished leader, the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has directed that the District Hospital Kargil be named after late Qamar Ali Akhoon.
The decision has been taken by the UT Administration of Ladakh in recognition of the exceptional and enduring contributions of Late Qamar Ali Akhoon to public service and politics. The proposal was considered following due examination of records and recommendations, including communication received from the General Administration Department.
Late Qamar Ali Akhoon was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to public welfare, integrity in public life, and a spirit of selfless service. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly for the upliftment of society, particularly focusing on the welfare of the poor and marginalised sections. His dedication and humility earned him immense admiration across all sections of the community.
As highlighted in the citation received by the Administration, late Akhoon devoted his entire life to serving the people and chose to remain unmarried, dedicating himself wholly to public causes. His life remained free from controversy, and his honesty and integrity made him a revered figure in the region. His contributions to social welfare, education, and public service have had a lasting impact on the development of Kargil and Ladakh as a whole.
“By naming a key public institution after late Qamar Ali Akhoon, the UT Administration seeks to ensure that his vision of service to humanity continues to guide and inspire the people of Ladakh for years to come. In view of his outstanding service and enduring legacy, the naming of District Hospital Kargil in his honour has been considered a befitting tribute,” said Lt Governor VK Saxena.
The UT Administration emphasised that this decision reflects its deep respect for individuals who have made significant contributions to the region and underscores its commitment to recognising and celebrating such exemplary lives.
