LG speaks to Farooq, Azad, other senior political leaders of J&K

‘Corona curfew has shown good results’

JAMMU, May 10: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today spoke to the senior leaders of various political parties of J&K over the phone, and sought their cooperation and suggestions.
He observed that the representatives of public and political leaders have an important role to play in these trying times. With everyone’s support and cooperation, we can successfully break the chain of the spread of COVID pandemic.
“Let us all come together to protect and save precious lives by discharging our duty towards the society”, he added.
During the telephonic conversation, the Lt Governor talked to Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Member Parliament & National Conference President; Ghulam Nabi Azad, Former MP Rajya Sabha; Dr. Nirmal Singh & Muzaffar Baig- former Deputy Chief Ministers, besides senior leaders of their respective political parties -GA Mir, President JKPCC; Altaf Bukhari, founding president, J&K Apni Party; Saifudin Soz, Congress; Bhim Singh, President, National Panthers Party; Sajad Lone, President, J&K People’s Conference; Ravinder Raina, BJP J&K President; Devender Singh Rana, National Conference leader, and Ravinder Sharma, JKPCC.
“Administration is committed to the safety of the people. We are working round-the-clock and doing our best to ensure the availability of all the necessary medicare facilities, besides taking comprehensive measures to strengthen the rapid response mechanism to deal with the emerging situation”, Sinha said.
He observed that the present COVID situation in the UT is under control. The capacity of medical oxygen in J&K has increased three times in the last six months with most of the big COVID care Government hospitals in J&K having their own oxygen generation plants. Six months ago, medical facilities in J&K had only 17 oxygen generation plants and currently the number has gone up to 44. Ten more such plants are set to be installed in a couple of weeks. Besides, the Government has ensured an uninterrupted supply of oxygen cylinders, he added.
The Lt Governor also invited their suggestions for strengthening the control measures being taken by the Government to curtail the spread of this deadly virus.
They assured the Lt Governor their cooperation in COVID containment efforts of the UT Government.
Meanwhile, Sinha said today that the administration is working day and night in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines and oxygen and added that Corona curfew has shown good results and that’s why it was extended for another week.
In a brief video message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha lauded the doctors and para-medical staff for risking their lives to help the people suffering from Coronavirus at this stage.
“The administration is working day and night to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines and oxygen in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said and referred to the Government decision to help the people by giving them free COVID kit containing medicines for 10 days to the people infected by the virus.
It may be mentioned here that the Lieutenant Governor had recently announced that all COVID positive patients isolated at homes will be given 10-day medicines for treatment in free COVID kit. This will help the patients in speedy recovery.
Asserting that Corona curfew has shown encouraging results, Sinha said it has been extended in the entire Union Territory for one more week.
“I know it’s a tough decision especially in the wake of religious festivals and the pious month of Ramadhan. But the decision had to be taken to keep the people safe,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He urged the people not to move out of houses unless absolutely necessary.
“I urge the people that unless necessary, they shouldn’t move out of the houses. The people should also follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) like wearing masks, maintaining hygiene and social distancing,” Sinha said and added that if people follow all COVID protocols they will succeed in breaking chain of the Coronavirus.
He assured the people that administration in the Union Territory is standing fully behind the people with all sensitivity.
The Lieutenant Governor said the administration is taking all measures to ensure that the common man doesn’t face any problems.
Sinha sought help of the people in further breaking chain of COVID-19.
