LG Ladakh meets various delegations in Kargil

KARGIL, Mar 20: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), today met with several delegations during the first day of his two-day visit to Kargil district.
Among the visitors was Arun Porge, General Manager of NHIDCL in Kargil, who invited the LG to the inauguration of a bridge in Leh on March 22. The LG confirmed that he would attend.
A delegation led by Sheikh Nazir Mehdi, President of Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil, discussed a plan for a mass plantation project in Kargil. They aim to plant 1 lakh saplings with the involvement of various departments, the Indian Army, and the public.
The LG advised them to focus on areas with sufficient water and ensure the survival of the saplings.
The LG also urged Sheikh Nazir to address the issue of stray dogs in Ladakh and encouraged public awareness to clear outstanding electricity dues to ensure proper functioning of the department.
Sheikh Nazir thanked the LG for supporting the plantation project.
A delegation from the Kargil Education Department, including cooks and sweepers led by Archo Fiza, requested an increase in their honorarium, which is currently Rs 50 per month.
The LG directed Bhanu Prabha, Secretary of School Education, to form a committee to study the issue and submit a report by the end of March.
Chief Engineer of Project Vijayak, Brig Vivek Oberai, also met with the LG and shared updates on key infrastructure projects, including the Zojila Pass, which will be open to traffic by the end of March.
The LG directed the Chief Engineer to build public restrooms every 10 km along the route and suggested collaborating with Sulabh NGO for the project’s progress.
The Chief Engineer also briefed the LG on other ongoing projects like the Foot Bridge to Lamdon School at Khaltse, the Fotula Tunnel, the Zojila Tunnel, and road projects such as the four-laning of the Nimmo-Leh road, and the Khaltse-Batalik and Turtuk-Batalik roads.
