SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today assured people living near Hokersar wetland that demarcation of the water body that was left halfway would be completed and water of the flood spill channel will be regulated so that farmers may not suffer losses to their crops.
A delegation of the people of Daharmuna, Soibugh and Gotapora met the LG this evening and the delegation said that the LG assured them that their grievances would be addressed.
It may be mentioned here that the people of these villages demand the demarcation of the twin wetlands of Hokersar and Narkara in district Budgam that was aimed to prevent their encroachments.
The demarcation of Hokersar wetland was completed in April this year but that of Narkara is yet to be done. However, after the demarcation of Hokersar wetland, the erection of boundary marks that was ordered by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue Budgam (DCB/SQ/ 2025-26/Demarcation /1426 dated 04-06-2025) and was to be carried out in June this year has not been done.
The ACR Budgam earlier this year ordered (No. DCB/ SQ/2024-25/ Demarcation/ 598-618 dated 13-03-2025) the demarcation of these wetlands.
The residents of several villages in Budgam district, like Daharmuna, Soibugh, Gotpora, Narbal, and Sozeith also demand that water of the flood spill channel should be regulated so that their agricultural crops may not get waterlogged. The waterlogging of the agricultural land in this area this year led to crop damage.
The delegation was led by Nazir Ahmed Khan, Former Chairman, District Development Council Budgam.
He submitted a memorandum of demands to the LG pertaining to various issues of public importance including long pending demand of land issue of demarcation of Hokersar and regulation of water of flood spill channel, upgradation of Hospital building at Soibugh, approach road to ring road from Daharmuna, establishment of Mini Secretariat in Budgam, widening of Srinagar Budgam road, Electric bus service of Paharthan, Hokhlitre, Beerwah, Hardmalpora, SK Pora, Sports stadium at Beerwah, Playground at Daharmuna.
He also demanded upgradation of road from Sholipora to Pasroo village, Nasrullah pora Mir mohalla road, Nadigam Mir mohalla road and Paharthan Chotriball Panahgond road.
The LG assured Khan that appropriate action will be taken to address the genuine issues projected by him.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Civil Society Forum Kashmir for Health led by Omar Shafi Trumboo called on Lieutenant Governor and put forth various important issues to strengthen the fight against drug menace in Jammu Kashmir.
