LEH, June 13: In a move to enhance industrial regulation and worker safety, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has issued two important notifications under the Factories Act, 1948, appointing key officials to strengthen the region’s factory oversight framework.
According to the notification, the Administrative Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department has been designated as the Chief Inspector of Factories for the Union Territory. To support the enforcement of factory laws and streamline administrative functions, the Deputy/Under Secretary of the Department has been appointed as the Joint Chief Inspector of Factories. Additionally, all Assistant Labour Commissioners will serve as Deputy Chief Inspectors to assist in the execution of statutory responsibilities under the Act.
In a parallel order aimed at bolstering health and safety standards in industrial establishments, the Medical Superintendent of SNM Hospital Leh and Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kargil have been appointed as Certifying Surgeons for their respective districts. These appointments are critical for ensuring medical examinations of workers, as mandated under various provisions of the Factories Act.
