JAMMU, Jan 31: A letter written to the Chief Justice against Deputy Commissioner Srinagar was today treated as Civil Miscellaneous Application (CMA) in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi.
Reading the contents of the application in the open court, Chief Justice said, “the allegations in the application are against IAS officer Baseer Ahmed Khan, who is posted as Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar”. In the application, it has been mentioned by an unknown person that Baseer Ahmed Khan has been involved in many scams.
It has also been mentioned in the application that Deputy Commissioner Srinagar has made life of common people miserable by his rude behaviour and charging bribe through his subordinates for discharging routine official work.
Seeking relief from the High Court for general public, the applicant said, “it is not understood why the authorities have posted such a corrupt official, who is facing land scam and other corruption cases pending in Vigilance Organization, on such vital public dealing office where he create hardships to poor people by demanding bribe for mere official routine work in land cases etc”.
Advocate SS Ahmed appearing for the PIL submitted that charge-sheet has been filed before the Court of Special Judge Anticorruption Srinagar in the much publicized Gulmarg Land Scam and a communication has been sent to the Union of India for securing sanction to prosecute Baseer Ahmed Khan.
After bringing the contents of the application to the notice of Advocate General, who was present in the court, the DB issued notice to the State which was accepted by Senior AAG Gagan Basotra and directed the Registry to list the PIL on February 4, 2013.
