RAMBAN, Sept 5: A leopard here today killed more than half a dozen sheep and goats along with a cow and all these animals belonged to three farmers in Kunfer area of Chanderkote.
Official sources said that this afternoon a leopard appeared in Ward number 1, Kunfer area and entered cowsheds of Mubarak Ali, Junaid Ali and Parvaiz Ahmed and killed half a dozen sheep and goats along with a cow and injured many other animals. Mubarak Ali, one of the owners of the animals, claimed that there were a dozen sheep and goats inside the cowshed when leopards attacked.
After listening cries of Mubarak Ali, other villagers rushed to the shed. Later on half a dozen dead animals were recovered from different areas by their owners and other villagers. According to villagers there were five to six leopards stalking around the nearby forest area and they come to the village to prey the grazing animals.
The incident has left people of the area panicked and they have expressed concern regarding safety of their children especially when the schools will reopen.
They also have apprehension that the beast may attack men, women and children. The locals have appealed to the Wild Life Department to depute a team of officials to the area to capture the leopards and shift them to some zoo.
