LAWDA fails in cleaning Nallah-e-Amir Khan, locals protest

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: The Nallah-e-Amir Khan is presenting a pathetic look as the LAWDA has failed in cleaning the muck and garbage that has accumulated in it near the Nalbal area of Srinagar, locals allege.
In this regard, the locals of the area today staged a protest against the inaction of the concerned department while stating that the accumulation of the garbage is proving hazardous to their health.
Scores of residents assembled near the Nallah-e-Amir Khan the water of which flows down to the Khushal Sar and Gilsar where the process of cleaning is currently on.
“There is a gate at this spot on the nallah and due to that the entire muck has accumulated there; while the Government is cleaning the water bodies down from the Nallah-e-Amir Khan, it has at the same time failed in cleaning the upper portion,” Qaiser Shah one of the residents said.
The residents said that cleaning the Khushal Sar and Gilsar is of no use unless and until the upper side of the water body is thoroughly cleaned. “The cleaning is indeed a good step, but they have to do it systematically and the muck and garbage that has accumulated here needs to be cleaned,” the residents said.
They said that the administration has been resorting to indifference with regard to the cleaning of the Nallah-e-Amir Khan.
“Due to the failure of cleaning of the water body, the people of living in the area are facing immense problems,” they said.
The residents have appealed to the authorities to take measures so that the garbage and muck which is killing the lake and affecting the health of the locals in the area.
