Lack of proper planning coupled with official apathy has turned the Lasjan sports stadium into a cesspool thereby depriving the youth the opportunity of demonstrating their skills of sportsmanship. The Government goes on laying emphasis on engaging the youth in creative activities so that they are kept away from misusing their energy. If the authorities are true to their oft repeated claims, then they should not have allowed this stadium to turn into a wetland where weed grows abundantly and the stadium has become a pasture for the quadrupeds. Local people regret that once a lush green field used to brim with sports activities but now the youth have no place where they would demonstrate their sports skills. Authorities ordered its filling but did not care to have proper drainage so that rain water does not accumulate. There is no maintenance of the stadium and it is left as no man’s land. For last two years not a single tournament has been played on this ground. Will the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare explain why this stadium has turned into a cesspool after investing good deal of money and raising the hopes of the youth that they would be provided with facilities to demonstrate their skill in sports. Lasjan is in the peripheries of the city of Srinagar and it should have been one of the most attractive stadia in the State but alas apathy and insensitivity have wrought havoc to it.
