JAMMU, May 12: Dr Rajive Gupta, an eminent laparoscopic surgeon of Jammu has performed laparoscopic surgery for Gall bladder stones on a 90-year-old woman at Maxxlyfe Hospital, Bathindi Morh, Jammu.
The patient named Taro Devi wife of Shangra Ram, resident of Sarore, was suffering from recurrent attacks of pain in abdomen due to stones in Gall bladder and has shown to number of surgeons, but nobody dared to take up the case for surgery keeping in view her old age.
When she consulted Dr Rajive Gupta at Maxxlyfe Hospital for her unending pain in abdomen, Dr Gupta took the courage and operated her by laparoscopic technique by just 3 key holes. The operation took 30 minutes only and patient was given oral liquids after 4 hours and was made to sit after 6 hours.
The operation was assisted by Dr Ritvik Resutra, Yoginder (OT Assistant) and senior anesthetist Dr Rakesh Anand.
According to Dr Gupta, patient is behaving well after surgery despite her old age. Medical Director of Maxx Lyfe Hospital, Dr Dushyant Choudhary said this type of surgery on a 90-year-old patient is very challenging and is rarely undertaken even at tertiary care centers.
