Langers pack up after decline in yatra

JAMMU, Aug 4: With constant decline in Amarnath yatra during last two weeks now, the langers run by various organizations have almost been packed up on both Baltal and Chandanwari tracks.
Though 14 days of yatra are still left but the maximum langers have been packed up on both the yatra tracks as well as on Jammu –Srinagar National Highway.
According to sources out of 10 langers alone at Nunwan to Chandanwari seven have been packed up and only three are now functional after the constant fall in number of pilgrims visiting Holy Cave daily.
Sources said the three langers which were established at Ganeshpora -Pahalgam were already packed up after the mob attacked them a fortnight ago.
Maximum langers at Baltal as well as Nunwan, Chandanwari, Sheshnag have been also packed sources said.
Meanwhile, on the 34th day of darshan today 501 pilgrims paid obeisance to ice Lingam in holy cave. With this, the total number of pilgrims performing darshan since the 48 day long yatra started on July 2 has reached 2,16,801.
An official spokesman said 216 pilgrims left from Chandanwari to holy cave today by foot while 11 yatris left by chopper. He said 200 reached Nunwan after performed darshan at holy cave today.
He said all the pilgrims which were stranded at Nunwan for last thee days were evacuated to Jammu late last night. However yatris at Baltal remained stranded yesterday also and they could not be evacuated to Srinagar or Jammu due to unrest in various parts of Kashmir.
The authorities were hopeful of evacuating these pilgrims late to night, spokesman added.
Spokesman said 313 pilgrims left from Baltal to holy cave today while 279 reached Baltal from Srinagar early this morning.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 194 pilgrims left for two base camps of Baltal and Nunwan from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas today under tight security arrangements.
