RAMBAN, Sept 11: Many residential houses along with a government school building were today damaged in Tangar area near here and developed cracks after a major land sinking incident was triggered by the recent heavy rainfall.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, rushed to the spot along with disaster management officials and inspected the affected area.
Authorities said that Government High School Tangar was declared unsafe after its building developed cracks.
The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Additional SP Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, ACR Shokat Hayat Mattoo, AD FCS&CA Niamatullah Sheikh, Tehsildars and Engineers of PWD and PMGSY assessed the damage and reviewed safety measures.
He also inspected safer sites identified for setting up a lodgement centre for families whose residences may become uninhabitable.
Joint teams of civil and Police officials have been deployed to monitor the situation.
The DC said that protecting human lives is administration’s foremost priority and urged the residents to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories. He directed officials to provide immediate relief to the affected families and to remain prepared for evacuation, if necessary.
During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns and issued on-the-spot directions for redressal of genuine grievances.
The district administration was closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
Meanwhile, MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju also visited Tanger to assess the damages caused by the land subsidence.
He also interacted with the affected people.
