Karra defers all programmes

JAMMU, Aug 16: JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra has deferred all scheduled programmes of the including ongoing statehood movement in both divisions, for next one week as a mark of respect to those killed in the huge tragedy that struck Machail area of Kishtwar.
A party handout disclosed that PCC chief Karra has deferred all scheduled programmes for one week, keeping in view the magnitude of the tragedy involving pilgrims and others from different parts of the region. The birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi on Aug 20 shall also be commemorated in a simple manner, it added.
It further said that PCC president alongwith working president Raman Bhalla and a team of other senior Congress leaders shall visit the Chashoti/Paddar area and meet the local people on Sunday.
Meanwhile a Congress delegation led by Ch Lal Singh, GM Saroori and others visited devastating cloudburst village Chasoti-Paddar today and expressed condolences to the victim families and demanded adequate compensation and rehabilitation measures for their welfare.
They urged the Central Government to provide Rs 10 lakh to each bereaved family, reconstruct damaged houses, ensure Government employment for one member of every victim’s family, and declare the Kishtwar-Machail road as a national highway.
The PCC leaders took stock of the situation on ground and extend solidarity with the victims of the this devasted tragedy. The leaders interacted closely with the affected families, and assured them of full support.
