JAMMU, Apr 7: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Ch Lal Singh today issued directions to the Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar for improvement in the sanitation facilities in and around the hospital besides ensuring hassle free treatment facilities to the patients.
The Minister said this while addressing a large gathering of medicos and paramedicos on the observance of World Health Day at Government Hospital at Gandhi Nagar organized by Directorate of Health Services, this evening.
Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education Shantmanu, Director General Indian System of Medicines, Dr. Kabir Ahmed Dar, Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Baljeet Pathania, Medical Superintendent Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Dr. Younis Choudhary, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robinder Khajuria besides others senior officers of Health and Medical Education including paramedics were also present on the occasion.
The Minister said the theme of World Health Day 2015 “Hypertension” lends immediacy to the mission to high blood pressure and underlines the fact that everyone can make it his or her responsibility to eliminate the deadly disease from the face of the earth in the foreseeable future. He said the day offers an opportunity to focus on blood pressure related problems and solutions and to support worldwide efforts to control Hypertension.
Ch Lal Singh said that World Health Day is an occasion to raise public awareness on hypertension disease that is treatable and preventable and yet has spread to epidemic proportions and continues to kill millions of people each year especially in the developing countries.
The Minister said that it is essential that detection and control of high blood pressure (measurement, health advice and treatment), are coupled with simultaneous reduction of other risk factors that cause heart attacks and strokes, such as diabetes and tobacco use. He said there should be core elements of primary health care in all countries, and integral efforts to reduce the growing burden of communicable diseases.
Ch Lal Singh said that controlling high blood pressure, together with other risk factors is the main way to prevent heart attack and stroke. He said the risk of developing high blood pressure can be minimized by cutting down on salt; eating a balanced diet; avoiding harmful use of alcohol; getting regular exercise; and avoiding tobacco use, to encourage adults to check their blood pressure and to follow the advice of their health care professionals.
The Minister stressed upon the concerned authorities to organize awareness camps especially in remote and hilly areas for encouraging self-care to prevent high blood pressure.
Later, the Minister also went round all the wards of the hospital and enquired the healthcare facilities and well being of the patients.
