JAMMU, July 17: A delegation of Laghu Udyog Bharti (LUB), J&K met Chief Secretary (CS), Atal Dulloo and raised certain demands for industrial development. The delegation also submitted a memorandum containing the demands.
The delegation members said that New Central Sector Scheme introduced by the Government of India has significantly transformed industrial investment environment in J&K but the Scheme’s registration deadline expired on September 30, 2024, raising serious concerns about future of its impact. LUB demanded that the deadline should be extended, incentives enhanced and the pending applications should be accommodated.
The delegation also called for immediate release of pending disbursements of Turnover Incentive from 2021-22 and full payments for 2022-23 and 2023-24, arguing that failure to fulfil such commitments erodes investor confidence and further stresses existing units.
The LUB also raised the matter of SGST refunds under budgetary support.
Payment delays from government departments and public sector undertakings like SICOP were the other issue raised on this occasion.
The delegation also demanded immediate announcement and enforcement of a structured procurement policy in support of local industries.
The LUB also demanded that freehold rights to industries located within city or municipal limits, particularly for activities such as storage hubs, hotels, workshops etc.
It was also demanded that Jammu should be promoted as a standalone tourism destination.
To support local employment and to reduce the outmigration of skilled youth, the delegation reiterated the longstanding demand for the establishment of an IT Park near Jammu and setting up of private universities under State legislation, offering medical, engineering, and management education to increase the student base in J&K which may contribute to the local economy.
