JAMMU, Aug 17: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta today said that Ladakh had been subjected to neglect and discrimination for decades but the long-pending aspiration of its people was fulfilled when the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted Union Territory status to Ladakh.
The Lt Governor was speaking during a felicitation programme organized by Bharat Vikas Parishad here.
The Lieutenant Governor said that Ladakh is “far more beautiful than Switzerland” and has the potential to emerge as the world’s most sought-after tourism destination. Highlighting new initiatives, he stated that Siachen and Galwan are also being developed to promote tourism, thereby offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness the unmatched natural beauty as well as the spirit of courage and sacrifice associated with Ladakh’s frontier regions.
He further vowed to promote adventure tourism, spiritual tourism and religious tourism and winter tourism in Ladakh, positioning the Union Territory as a complete tourism package that blends thrill, tranquility and faith.
“There are several challenges before us, but I firmly believe that massive change will be witnessed in Ladakh in the coming years,” he assured, adding “I am determined to ensure that Ladakh not only showcases its breathtaking landscapes, but also its rich heritage, vibrant culture and traditions before the world”.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor released a Directory of Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat at a function. At the beginning of the programme, students of Panchvaktar Mahadev Pathshala recited Vedic hymns.
The Sabha members highlighted work particularly social service activities. It was informed that the directory comprises the biodata of 682 Mahajan families. The Lt Governor also felicitated the community members for their social service and lauded the Mahajan Sabha for its efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Randhawa expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the Mahajan Sabha for its sustained commitment to community welfare. He highlighted the Sabha’s active role in addressing local issues, organizing health camps, supporting educational initiatives and aiding underprivileged families. He assured his full support to the Sabha in its future projects, noting that community-driven efforts are essential for the holistic development of any region.
Ramesh Gupta, in his address, emphasized the unity of purpose that binds the Mahajan community together. He praised the Channi Himmat Unit for setting a high standard of organizational excellence and for its unwavering dedication to service.
In his address, Vipan Gupta shared that the newly published directory contains detailed information on over 682 Mahajan families of Channi Himmat, compiled through an extensive eight-month door-to-door data collection drive. He expressed gratitude to all sponsors who contributed through advertisements in the directory, making it possible to publish this significant document without placing any financial burden on the Sabha’s exchequer.
He also urged all members of the Sabha and the general public to use Made-in-India products and to boycott products from other countries, emphasizing the importance of economic self-reliance and national pride.
The stage proceedings were conducted by Ashok Gupta, General Secretary, while Ashok Jandyal (Chairman), Mohan Gupta (Vice President), Ankit Gupta (Publicity Secretary), Pankaj Gupta (Secretary), Anil Gupta (Joint Secretary), Vishavdeep Gupta (Treasurer), and Kushwinder Gupta (Matrimonial Incharge) were also present on the occasion.
