JAMMU, Apr 27: Demanding admission in higher education institutions in Jammu, Ladakhi students held a protest demonstration, here today.
Carrying placards and banners, they were seeking admission for Ladakh students in higher education institutions across Jammu as per the past practice prior to August 2019 when J&K State was bifurcated into two Union Territories, separating Ladakh.
The protest was held under the banner of All Ladakh Students Joint Action Committee, near Press Club Jammu.
The protesting students from Ladakh, including girls, were raising slogans in support of their demand and urging the Government of J&K Union Territory to take cognizance of their grievance.
Talking to the media persons, the protesting students explained the difficulties being faced by them due to denial of admission in Jammu institutions where they were earlier accommodated under the category of Scheduled Tribe.
“After the separation of Ladakh, we are being denied admission here under the earlier arrangement in vogue whereas popular subjects are not yet introduced in the Ladakh University,” they said.
Pointing out that Ladakh also has no Medical and Engineering College, the students urged the J&K Government to continue the pre-2019 admission policy for them till all popular subjects are introduced in Ladakh University.
