Ladakh LG re-constitutes District Road Safety Committees

LEH, June 19: Lt Governor of Ladakh has re-constituted the District Road Safety Committees (DRSC) in each district of the Union Territory.
Headed by the Deputy Commissioner concerned as Ex-officio Chairman, the committee shall monitor the implementation of State Road Safety Policy, directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, Government of India and the State Government as may be issued from time to time on matters of road safety and decisions of the State Road Safety Council in the district.
Further, the Committee shall regularly track and update the State Road Safety Council on details of road crashes that took place in the district and develop a district road safety plan.
It shall ensure optimal positioning of ambulances to help improve response time and prepare an emergency medical plan for mass fatality accidents in the district.
The committee shall act as the nodal body for placing, requirement(s), and disbursal of road safety funds and interact with State Road Safety Council as and when required. It shall provide suggestion(s) to UT Administration as and when requested to formulate or amend rules under Motor Vehicle Act.
The district Road Safety Committee shall meet at least fortnightly on a virtual platform and physically at least once a month.
SSP, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Engineer of BRO, Executive Engineer, Road Owning Agencies of the district concerned, representative of the Regional office, MoRTH, Project Director, NHAI, Executive Officer of Municipal Bodies, ARTO and at least one NGO or civil society organization shall be members of the committee while concerned Superintending Engineer, PWD will be the Member Secretary.
