No helmets, no safety concerns

RAJOURI, June 26: Serious safety concerns with regard to work force engaged in the ongoing road construction work along the Rajouri- DKG-Surankote road, has come to light, as the construction company has ignored the safety of the labourers and other workers.
The labourers engaged in the project are reportedly working in highly slide-prone and hazardous zones without any basic protective gear, including helmets, reflective jackets, or safety harnesses.
Disturbingly, the construction company overseeing this critical infrastructure project has failed to implement even the most fundamental safety measures. Despite the inherent risks posed by the rugged terrain and frequent landslides, no visible steps have been taken to ensure the well-being of the workers involved.
This blatant disregard for worker safety is not only a violation of Labour laws but also highlights a serious lapse in oversight by both the executing agency and the concerned authorities. The lack of safety protocols raises troubling questions about the ethical and legal responsibilities of those managing and monitoring the project.
It has been observed that till date no effective intervention has been made by the construction company despite the clear danger to scores of labourers working in life-threatening conditions. Such negligence should be unacceptable for the officvers at the helm of affairs in the district, especially in a region as sensitive as the Pir Panjal.
Locals urged the District Administration, :Labour department, and other regulatory bodies to take immediate cognizance of this matter. Strict enforcement of Labour safety norms must be ensured without delay, and the construction agency must be held accountable for its failure to protect its workforce.
