JAMMU, May 24: The Labour Department of Jammu and Kashmir held an interactive session at Chenab Textile Mills (CTM), Kathua to spread awareness on labour welfare, safety and social security schemes.
A statement said that Labour Commissioner Charandeep Singh, who also heads the J&K Employees State Insurance Scheme (JKESIS), was the chief guest on the occasion.
He interacted with workers covered under the JKESIS and listened to their experiences. Many shared how the scheme has helped them and their families with medical and financial support.
Insurance Medical Officer Dr Neeru Khajuria gave a presentation on JKESIS, explaining its features, benefits, and eligibility. She stressed the need for timely registration and greater awareness.
Roopali Jasrotia, Assistant Labour Commissioner (Central), also addressed the gathering and spoke about various labour laws and welfare schemes for industrial workers.
As part of the event, the Labour Commissioner distributed medical reimbursement claims to insured workers and appreciated CTM for supporting Government schemes and maintaining high safety standards.
He also witnessed a mock safety drill conducted by the CTM staff.
CTM Executive President UK Patnayak gave an overview of the company’s operations, safety measures, and welfare initiatives for workers.
He said CTM aims to work closely with the Government to improve labour conditions.
Over 100 workers participated in the programme, with Labour Commissioner urging the industries to continue promoting a safe and respectful work environment.
The Labour Department reaffirmed its commitment to worker welfare in Jammu and Kashmir through the effective implementation of labour laws and schemes like JKESIS.
