JAMMU, Jan 1: In continuation of the ongoing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign aimed at creating awareness about the newly introduced Labour Codes, the Labour Department today held a detailed and interactive discussion with the president and members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI), Jammu.
The meeting witnessed active participation from representatives of the trade and industrial community and was attended by a team of officers from the Labour Department, comprising the Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu and Labour Officers from Jammu, under the leadership of the Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu.
The officers elaborated on the objectives, scope and significance of the four new Labour Codes, with special emphasis on simplifying labour laws, improving compliance mechanisms and fostering an environment conducive to ease of doing business.
During the interaction, the Department highlighted how the new codes aim to strike a balance between promoting trade and industry and safeguarding the welfare and rights of workers in the changing economic and employment landscape. The officers explained key provisions related to wages, industrial relations, social security and occupational safety, stressing their relevance in the present times.
The roles and responsibilities of employers under the new framework were discussed threadbare, including the need for timely compliance, transparency and adoption of best labour practices. The stakeholders were also briefed about the phased transition from the existing labour laws to the full implementation of the new codes.
Suggestions and feedback from the members of CCI Jammu were invited and noted, paving the way for a smoother and more effective implementation process.
Meanwhile, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu has termed the allocation of Rs 1430 crores to the Jammu and Kashmir by the Central Government as a welcome step.
In a meeting of the office bearers of Chamber of Commerce & Industry held today at Chamber House, its president Arun Gupta expressed gratitude  for the allocation of Rs 1430 crores by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Jamu and Kashmir.
This funding is specifically designated for reconstruction, repairing public infrastructure damaged by cloudbursts, landslide, flash floods and implementing disaster prevention measures in affected districts of Jammu region.
President extended his thanks to Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary whose efforts were instrumental in the approval process of financial assistance for UT of J&K.
