JAMMU, Jan 23: Labour Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir, Charandeep Singh, today reviewed the implementation and progress of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) scheme during a meeting with all Assistant Labour Commissioners of the Union Territory.
During the review, it was informed that 85,954 unorganised workers have been registered under the PM-SYM scheme in Jammu and Kashmir so far.
The Labour Commissioner took stock of the ongoing registration drive and said that necessary plans have already been put in place to further speed up enrolment under the scheme.
He stressed the need for intensified field-level activities to ensure wider coverage of eligible workers.
The Labour Commissioner directed all Assistant Labour Commissioners to continue the registration process in a mission mode.
He also asked them to strengthen awareness and sensitisation efforts through Information, Education and Communication activities.
Emphasis was laid on organising more awareness camps and increasing direct interaction with unorganised workers so that they are fully informed about the benefits of the scheme.
The Labour Commissioner also underlined the importance of inter-departmental coordination for effective implementation of PM-SYM.
He instructed the officers to involve other line departments and key stakeholders to ensure faster and broader registration of eligible beneficiaries.
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan is a flagship social security scheme of the Government of India aimed at providing old-age protection to unorganised workers. Workers in the age group of 18 to 40 years can enrol under the scheme by making a small monthly contribution, which is matched by an equal contribution from the Central Government.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries are entitled to a minimum assured pension of Rs 3,000 per month after attaining the age of 60 years.
