JAMMU, Dec 14: A meeting of Laboratory Technicians working in various health institutions across Jammu Division was held today at the Government Hospital Sarwal premises to deliberate upon pressing service-related issues affecting laboratory staff.
The meeting witnessed active participation from technicians representing different hospitals and healthcare institutions, reflecting widespread concern over staffing shortages, career progression and workplace safety.
During detailed discussions, the house expressed serious concern over the long-pending vacancy of the post of Technical Supervisor-cum-Officer in the Pathology Department. The participants unanimously demanded that this crucial supervisory post be filled immediately to ensure effective monitoring, management and smooth functioning of laboratory services.
The acute shortage of Junior Laboratory Technicians was another major issue highlighted. The technicians resolved to seek early filling of all vacant posts through a regular recruitment process, stating that inadequate manpower has significantly increased workload and impacted patient care across health institutions in the division.
The meeting also stressed the urgent need to fill eligible vacancies through the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to ensure timely career advancement and optimal utilization of experienced staff. Additionally, strong resentment was expressed over existing pay and grade anomalies.
Considering the hazardous nature of laboratory work involving exposure to infectious samples, blood, chemicals and biological materials, the technicians unanimously demanded the grant of Risk Allowance to all laboratory staff to compensate for occupational health risks.
The house further noted that sanctioned posts of Laboratory Technicians are grossly inadequate when viewed against population norms and the growing patient load in OPD, IPD and emergency services. It was resolved to demand creation of additional posts based on realistic population and workload assessments.
The meeting concluded with an appeal to the concerned authorities to sympathetically consider these genuine demands.
