JAMMU, July 15: With Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) yet to receive invitation from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for talks on their issues in New Delhi, Kushok Thiksey Rinpoche, the Head Lama of Thiksey and Diskit Monasteries and former Rajya Sabha MP, has called for the postponement of all forms of protest, including the hunger strike announced by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, now a LAB member, till the visit of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakrook told the Excelsior that they haven’t received the invitation for meeting by the MHA in New Delhi to discuss their remaining issues of Statehood and Sixth Schedule status so far.
It may be mentioned here that the LAB and KDA had earlier been sounded about a possible meeting on July 20 after which Sonam Wangchuk had postponed his proposed 35-day-long fast scheduled to begin today in support of their demands.
Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to the Apex Body Leh, Thiksey Rinpoche emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and unity during the Dalai Lama’s presence in the region.
“His presence brings immense spiritual grace and is a moment for peace, reflection, and unity for all of us,” he wrote.
Thiksey Rinpoche asserted that any protests or agitations during this sacred time may divert attention from the Dalai Lama’s core message of compassion and non-violence.
“Let us preserve the sanctity of this time and reflect the values His Holiness stands for – peace, non-violence, and togetherness,” he added.
Lakrook said they have received the letter and will discuss it. However, he added, a decision to suspend fast has to be taken by Sonam Wangchuk.
Thiksey Rinpoche also made a significant political suggestion, requesting the reinstatement of Thupstan Chhewang as the Chairman of the Apex Body.
“His leadership has been pivotal, and revisiting decisions made during his absence would send a strong message of unity and inclusion,” the letter stated.
