LEH, Mar 15: The Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance are set to organize mega rallies in Leh and Kargil districts tomorrow to press the Government of India for Ladakh’s key demands, including the Sixth Schedule and statehood.
In Leh, the rally will start from Singge Namgyal Chowk and culminate in a large public gathering at the Leh Polo Ground. In Kargil, the entire market is likely to remain shut during the rally. Leaders of the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance have appealed to people in both districts to participate in large numbers.
Apex Body leaders have assured that the rally will be peaceful and have urged people to cooperate to make it a success. Leh Apex Body Co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakrook said that the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, had suggested that the Apex Body leaders should not hold the rally.
However, Lakrook stated that the leadership informed the LG that Ladakh’s key demands are still pending, including the grant of Sixth Schedule status, statehood for Ladakh, withdrawal of cases against Ladakhis in connection with the September 24 incident, the release of two prisoners, and the convening of talks on Ladakh’s issues without further delays.
The rallies are expected to draw thousands of participants, especially following the revocation of the National Security Act against Sonam Wangchuk. The news that the NSA has been revoked and that he will be released has created a celebratory and jubilant mood among people in both Leh and Kargil districts.
Leaders of the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance have welcomed the revocation of the NSA against Sonam Wangchuk, describing it as a major victory not only for him but for the entire Ladakh region.
