LEH, Sept 1: In a significant development, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) convened a joint meeting on Monday and unanimously adopted a resolution outlining their position for talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The resolution reaffirmed that Statehood for Ladakh and constitutional safeguards under the 6th Schedule must remain the core agenda during the forthcoming dialogue with the Centre. It further stressed that the MHA should not interfere in deciding the composition of the Apex Body Leh and KDA’s High Powered Committee or Sub-Committee, underscoring the need for autonomy in their internal structure.
Eighteen members of both groups endorsed the resolution. Among the signatories were Apex Body co-Chairman and former Minister Chering Dorjay Lakrook, former Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, KDA co-Chairmen Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, former Minister Qamar Ali and activist Sajjad Ladakhi, besides representatives of religious organisations and students’ bodies.
