KU paying salaries to absent employees

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, July 7: The need-based employees are giving a tough time to the Kashmir University authorities as they usually do not turn up for work weeks together and remain absent without intimating the concerned officials.
Excelsior has learnt that there are several departments that are suffering due to the unbecoming behaviour of such employees, who are even getting the salaries for the work which they usually skip doing.
Engaged under ‘Hire and Fire’ category, the administration has not taken any action against such employees in the University, neither has it stopped the salaries that they are being paid.
“They (such employees) usually remain absent from their duties as assigned without informing the concerned about it, while such a behaviour is problematic. It also disturbs the work environment all around,” an official said, adding that they are forced to assign their work to other employees who are already pre-occupied with their own stuff.
A number of such employees were issued frequent notices to furnish the reasons for their absence and were asked to report back, however, all such notices have gone unheard so far. One such notice was recently given to an employee who has not bothered to respond to it.
While the authorities seem to appear clueless about what is to be done with such employees, the official said that they have written to the Registrar asking him to look into the matter.
“We have written to the Registrar in this matter and have asked him to act accordingly against such employees,” the official said, adding they were hopeful that something will be done.
