SRINAGAR, Apr 5: With an aim to impart training to the students and scholars about the application of empirical research using micro level data of NSSO for effective policy planning and research Department of Economics, KU in collaboration with Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, GOI organised a weeklong workshop which concluded here today.
The objective of the workshop was to familiarize students with statistical package-data, to provide a detailed overview of micro level data of NSSO (National Sample Survey Organisation) and to impart a rigorous training of extraction and processing of NSSO data.
32 participants from prestigious universities across India participated in the workshop out of which eight were from Kashmir University.
Several issues including economy, poverty and unemployment were also discussed during the workshop.
Dean Academic Affairs, KU Prof. MA Wani in his presidential address said that we need to pull down the barriers and interact with different departments and institutions in order to conduct research at a larger level.
Head, Department of Economics, KU Prof Effat Yasmin said that workshops like these are aimed at enhancing capability of research and creating awareness among students, scholars and researchers about different data extraction and interpretation techniques.
Altaf Hussain Haji, Director NSSO Regional Office Srinagar, delivered a brief lecture on usage of NSSO data and said that the Department of economics has moved from teaching to training and also thanked the department for conducting such educational workshops.
Prof. GM Sangmi, Director Academic Staff College, KU, Dr. Abhey Kumar and other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion.
Later on certificates were distributed amongst the participants of the workshop.
