KU alumni can drive nation’s progress: LG

‘Contribute for peace, progress of J&K’

Srinagar, July 27 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today called on the alumni of the University of Kashmir to play a proactive role in shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir and the country through their expertise, mentorship, and institutional engagement.
Addressing the Mega Alumni Meet-2025 at the University of Kashmir, Sinha said the alumni are not just former students but a network of human potential with the power to drive societal transformation.

The LG called upon the Alumni to come forward to strengthen the higher educational institutions of J&K and use their expertise and network in various sectors to contribute to peace and progress of J&K.

Sinha emphasized that the alumni must extend necessary handholding and support to young students in their internships and career prospects, inspire, guide and empower them and build a better future for the new generation.

“The tradition of selfless sharing is an integral part of our culture. I believe that, in the era of globalization, alumni connections are the most effective strategy for the growth of any institution and region. University of Kashmir must create an institutional mechanism for the alumni which will provide them with an opportunity to give back to the University,” he said.
The LG lauded the achievements of KU alumni, including Dr. Karan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, and others, calling them “true brand ambassadors” of the institution.
“Today, we are honoured to have among us the alumni who have truly made the nation proud. They are a living testament to the 77-year legacy of Kashmir University,” he said.
“The alumni of the University of Kashmir, spread across the globe in diverse fields, are an asset to the region. I urge them to come forward and become active partners in the transformation journey of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
The LG stressed on the creation of an institutional mechanism to allow alumni to give back to their alma mater and support current students with internships, career placements, guidance, and inspiration. “The entire alumni of this university are an extended family. Alumni is not just a network of former students but a network of human potential dedicated to nation building,” he said.
Sinha urged the University to harness this network to strengthen higher education and link it with societal development. He said that the current students, too, must be empowered and engaged to help build a brighter future for Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country.
The LG congratulated the University for securing the prestigious A++ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), describing it as a testament to the institution’s academic excellence.
He also praised the university’s implementation of innovative programs under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including the “Design Your Own Degree” initiative. “The power of your knowledge, networks, and experience can accelerate positive change in education, governance, and social development,” Sinha told the alumni. He added that alumni connections in today’s globalized era are crucial for institutional and regional growth.
