JAMMU, Mar 21: Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust today asked the Government to show seriousness in protection of Kashmiri Hindu shrines and temples which are not mere worship places but the monuments linked to ancient cultural heritage of Valley.
If Government is interested in protection and safety of these heritage centres it should waste not even a single moment in passage of KP Shrines and Religious Places Bill which has been handed over to Select Committee some times back otherwise the community will get the impression that the Government is conniving to destroy the heritage of Kashmir, representatives of the Trust Virender Raina, Yash Bhasin, Roshan Lal Pandita and H L Bhat told reporters here today.
They said that failure to pass the temples Bill is causing a serious situation as in the absence of any institutional mechanism for the preservation of the temples and shrines in Kashmir the land mafia is free to indulge in the annexation of the said properties with impunity and without fear of law. The tenure of the present Assembly is also coming to an end next year and if the said Bill is not passed in the current Assembly session the whole process would be rendered infructuous.
They said the preservation of these temples and shrines for the posterity is a historical responsibility of the Kashmiri Pandits and all those people who believe in the civilized evolution of mankind. The primary responsibility lies with the State Government. Its failure to bring the legislation is subjecting the priceless heritage to continued loot and vandalization, they added.
