Jammu, Jan 23: A delegation of the Advisory Committee of Kashmiri Pandits, led by prominent community social activists Kuldeep Kashmiri and Bharat Kachroo, called on the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) to address the prevailing confusion and apprehensions among the community regarding the National Food Security Act (NFSA) forms.
During the meeting, the delegation members Sunil Pandita, Ashwani and Mohan Lal Raina conveyed the community’s concerns regarding potential implications of filling out the NFSA forms. They expressed fears that the initiative might inadvertently impact their displacement status or affect the benefits they currently receive under relief and rehabilitation measures.
The Relief Commissioner, in line with assurances previously given by the Chief Secretary, reassured the delegation that filling out the NFSA form would in no way jeopardize the displacement status of the community. He further promised that all related apprehensions raised by the community would be resolved transparently and effectively.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Relief Commissioner, outlining key concerns, including: concerns about whether the portability of ration cards under NFSA could dilute the recognition of their unique displacement identity, fears that their historical and political recognition as a displaced community might be undermined by policies focused solely on food security and requests for assurances that NFSA would not inadvertently affect ration scales, cash assistance, or processes like inclusion and bifurcation.
The memorandum emphasized the community’s demand for a public notification in simple language, clarifying that the NFSA would not disturb the existing relief measures. The delegation also proposed the option of providing cash in place of ration for the community’s convenience.
The Relief Commissioner assured them that their suggestions would be considered earnestly.
