JAMMU, Mar 21: The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) and Yukhant Mandli Ashram (YMA) today offered their heartfelt homage to the innocent Kashmiri Pandit martyrs of the Sangrampora massacre of March 21-22, 1997-one of the most tragic and painful chapters in the history of the community.
In the quiet village of Sangrampora in Budgam district, seven innocent Kashmiri Pandits were brutally dragged from their homes and shot dead in a targeted act of terror. These martyrs included Sanjay Bhat, Vijay Bhat, Pyare Lal, Triloki Nath Bhat, Bhushan Lal, Avtar Krishen Pandit, and Dileep Bhat were killed solely because of their identity and faith. Their sacrifice continues to haunt the collective conscience of the nation.
Despite the registration of an FIR in 1997, the case remains unresolved even after nearly three decades, raising serious concerns over delay, accountability, and denial of justice to the victim families.
KPC and YMA strongly demand the immediate reopening and reinvestigation of the Sangrampora massacre, along with other massacres such as Wandhama and Nadimarg, under a time-bound judicial mechanism through a Special Investigation Team or Judicial Commission. The perpetrators, conspirators, and their support systems must be identified and brought to justice without further delay.
“We firmly assert that the martyrs deserve equal recognition, justice, and dignity. Their sacrifice must be officially acknowledged, documented in national records, and their families provided adequate compensation, rehabilitation, and Government support at par with other victims of national tragedies”.
“We also call for fixing responsibility on those authorities and institutions whose negligence or indifference allowed such cases to remain unresolved for decades.
Justice delayed is justice denied, but justice denied repeatedly becomes a national failure. The pain of Sangrampora is not limited to a few families; it is the collective wound of the entire Kashmiri Pandit community, the KPC YMA said.
They urged Prime Minister, Home Minister, and all concerned authorities to act decisively and restore faith in justice. The community will continue peaceful struggle till truth prevails, they said.
