JAMMU, Nov 15: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) has sought the intervention of President of India, Ram Nath Kovind in settling the long pending demand of displaced Pandits regarding their rehabilitation and resettlement in newly carved out Kashyap State in Valley with both Constitutional and institutional guarantees.
In a letter to President, KPC chief, Kundan Kashmiri turned his attention towards the grave injustice which the community met due to the follies of successive Governments in the erstwhile State of J&K and at New Delhi which led to the mass exodus of the community in 1989-90.
The letter, while expressing grave concern over the targeted killing of minorities in general and Kashmiri Pandits in particular during last some months in Valley has alleged that it seems that the Government is unable to ensure their security and safety which is its paramount duty.
The letter also accused the Government and its responsible institutes for their failure in brining those people to justice who were responsible for killing of minorities in Valley since the spread of terrorism in 1989. With this appeasement approach of the successive Governments towards the prophets of doom the community has totally lost its confidence in the system which even after 32 years of its displacement has also failed to restore their homeland to them.
The KPC said even after abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, KPs struggle to get justice against the crimes committed against them seems to be unending and Central Government is also avoiding to formulate any concrete plan to resettle the community as per its aspirations at one place in the Valley.
The letter said despite being forcibly hounded out from the Kashmir valley, KPs continue to be labeled as “migrants” by the Government instead of being Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The letter said to give practical shape to exiled Pandits one place settlement in Valley which is a long pending demand of the community an Advisory Council from the KPs should be established under the auspices of the Ministry of Home Affairs/ PMO ,subject matter experts and others to help in the development of a comprehensive plan in this regard and sustainable return and rehabilitation at one place at the land of Kashyap in the Valley.
