KPC, FFVT show concern over Gastrointestinal infection in Jagti

Health Deptt takes samples of water

JAMMU, Jan 7: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), Front For Victims of Terrorism (FFVT) have shown its grave concern over the increasing Gastrointestinal cases in Jagti township where about 77 people were infected in last one week.
In their separate statements KPC chief, Kundan Kashmiri and FFVT , Dilip Pandita said that safety of Jagti camp inmates and other migrant camps is prime responsibility of Government. They said though Jagti township inmates have been repeatedly complaining about impure supply of drinking water but the concerned Jalshakti Department failed take cognisance of the same. They demanded that immediate filtration plant needs to be constructed for supplying pure water in the township. Besides, people suffering from the disease be provided proper treatment.
Meanwhile, following the directives of Relief Organisation Migrants Jammu, the Health Department has taken samples of water for testing today and sent it to lab in GMC, Jammu to ascertain whether the Gastrointestinal disease is the cause of water borne problem or it is the outcome of food bacterial problem.
However the sources from Health Department said that there can be many causes for the infection. The same can be ascertained after the results of the water sample tests.
The Relief Organisation has also urged the Jal Shakti Department to take the samples of the water from other camps and share the report with the organisation. It further urged the Department to ensure that the drinking water quality supplied in the camps should be safe from Microbes and other impurities.
